What is a vCard?
A vCard is a file format standard for electronic business cards. vCards are often seen as email attachments but we feel that use is self-limiting and believe that the use of vCards on the web will only increase in the near term.
Why should I add my Electronic Business Card(vCard) to my email signature?
People in business, should always have their Electronic Business Card (vCard) available to all people they communicate with by email. By adding your vCard to your email signature you are allowing people the ability to add your contact information to their contact list (address book) for simple and easy current and future reference from their desktop and/or mobile device.
How do I add my Electronic Business Card (vCard) to may email?
vCards can be added to emails in two ways: one, as an attachment to an email; two, as an hyperlink or url text within an email that connects to a server that host your vCard.
It is Not recommend that you add your vCard to your emails as an attachment for the following reasons:
Proper business etiquette requires that if you send an email with an attachment that you notify the recipient of your email attachment prior to sending the email. But, by adding your vCard as a hyperlink or url, your vCard would not be an attachment.
You shouldn’t use a vCard attachment with your email signature, because as helpful as it might be when you correspond with someone, receiving it every time gets annoying. On a positive note, when you add your vCard as a hyperlink or url in your email signature you are giving the recipient the option on when they would like to capture your contact information.
Email attachments increase the file size of your email and can take-up receivers resources.
Remember, that when you add your vCard to your email through your address book, your vCard is sent as an attachment.
